I am Cornelius “Corney” Mims; a 3-time Grammy Award-winning musician, record producer and songwriter born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I’m also a father, grandfather, and a recovery success story with 14 years free from substance abuse, 3 years alcohol-free, and two years tobacco-free.
In 2020 (the beginning of the pandemic) recovery (Narcotics Anonymous) took to the ZOOM platform and I first heard a gentleman (Carlos Wilson from New Orleans, LA) speak these words: “Hold your head up and keep walkin like you’re going somewhere”. Those words resonated with me and inspired me to write a song entitled Keep Walkin (Like You’re Goin Somewhere). The message of the song is that no matter the adversity; keep pushing forward (one step at a time) and you’ll surely make it through that situation stronger, wiser, BETTER.
I also struggled for many years with obesity which greatly affected my self-esteem as well as the state of my mental health. In the mid-1990s I was introduced to walking as a form of exercise for weight loss and better overall health and as a result, I now enjoy the benefits of a 130-pound weight reduction.
