In 2020 (the beginning of the pandemic) while on a virtual Narcotics Anonymous meeting I first heard a gentleman (Carlos Wilson from New Orleans, LA) speak these words: “hold your head up and keep walkin like you’re goin somewhere”. Those words resonated with me and inspired me to write a song which I titled Keep Walkin (Like You’re Goin Somewhere). The message of the song is that no matter the adversity; keep pushing forward (one step at a time) and you’ll surely make it through that situation stronger, wiser, BETTER.
The song officially released in March of 2021. Shortly thereafter I reconnected with my dear friend hip hop legend/pioneer Kurtis Blow who listened to the song and sensed a completely different inspiration. Based on his experience as a heart transplant recipient and the mandated activity of walking for physical therapy he suggested that I consider using the song as an instrument for heart health advocacy. He also encouraged me to contact The American Heart Association. Only a few months laterI lost my younger sister who passed from congestive heart failure on September 2, 2021. And five short months later my daughter passed away from cardiac arrest on February 7, 2022.
